Policies

TUITION: Tuition is due at the beginning of every month and should include the full amount of tuition. Students will not be credited for missed lessons. Since several months out of the year have 5 weeks and  November, December and April have holiday breaks, I teach an average of 4 lessons per month (in case you're worried about paying a set amount each month, even though December will only have 2 lessons).

MAKE UP LESSONS: Lessons can be made up for sickness and family catastrophic events. Make up lessons will not be given for recreational activities or forgetfulness. If you have any questions about making up a lesson please contact me. Make up lessons will only be given on the hours before group lessons (the last week of the month). For example, if you lesson time is 11-12 on Mondays and you were sick the first week of the month, you can make up your lesson on the hour before group lesson on the last Monday of the month. I am no longer able to make up lessons on other hours or days of the week. (See schedule for make-up lesson times).

PRACTICING: It is very important that students practice. We have many incentives at the studio to help in motivating students to practice. If studio incentives are not productive, please create family that will promote practicing. Students are so much happier when they are improving (see incentives more for information and ideas). Improvement comes only through practice.

DROP OFF and PICK UP: I strive to have students finish lessons as close to the hour as possible. If they are late, we still end on the hour, for the next group. I am a mother and understand not getting to places on time--please do your best. Also, please come to pick up your children as close to their end time as possible. If you are late I will have the students sit and wait for you in the basement where I can ensure that they are not wandering around the house. So, if you are late, please park and walk down to pick them up.

GROUP LESSONS: We will have group lessons once a month (except December). They will be held the last week of the month (some Thursdays will be the beginning of the next month--see schedule). At each group lesson, we will highlight a composer, learn the name of one his famous pieces, and practice or learn a new skill. Group lessons will introduce the next month's listening station's tasks and music.

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES: Each student is required to have a metronome, Hal Leonard flashcards and 2 Wright Way Practice Books. I have several sets of flashcards I can sell to students for $3. I also have a limited supply of metronomes that I will sell for $26/each. Children in the same family can share 1 set of flashcards and metronome.

Also, there is an incentive fee this year for students ($10 each for the year) to offset costs for our new incentive program. Incentive monies are due by November 1. I'm expecting that incentive money collected from students will cover 50% of incentives for the entire year.

Students will also need to buy books throughout the year. I will let you know when they need knew books and will either buy them and have you reimburse me or I will give you the information and you can pick them up at a music store.

RECITALS: We will hold 3 recitals a year. The first recital will be a group recital in December with all the students (no parents at this one). The second recital will be at a nursing home in the early spring, parents are welcome. The third recital will be in May (probably at a music store) and families will be encouraged to come.
