Incentives

Starting at the end of August we will be starting a new incentive program: DINO DOLLARS. Students will earn DINO DOLLARS for the following behaviors:

$1--for each 30 minutes practiced
$$double your practice dollars--practicing ALL assignments
$5--memorizing pieces of music (have to be at least 12 measures)
$25--performing in group lessons or other recitals
$--group lessons games (amount depends on game)
$1--correctly reading one line of music
$1--passing off Music Ace Games
$1--10 music vocabulary words (at lesson)
$1--group lesson participation
$10--completing scales and skills charts
$30--passing skill proficiency tests

Dino Dollars will be stored at the studio and students will be able to spend them on small treats during their lesson and at the studio store at Group Lessons. Behaviors and DINO DOLLAR prices will be clearly listed in the studio. Also, students will be able to preview store items the week before group lesson.

It is common for students to enjoy practicing at first and then drift into bad habits. I've found that  after a few years of taking lessons and practicing consistently, students usually practice because they enjoy it. So hang in there, they will most likely come to love it soon. You might consider creating your own incentives at home such as PENNIES FOR PIANO (students are paid one penny for 1 minute of practicing) or PLAYING FOR PRACTICING (allowing a specific amount of video gaming after a specific amount of practicing is complete). I can't begin to explain how fast students progress and how happy they are with their progress when they practice and how slow and frustrated students are when they don't practice.
